The end of March welcomed a new business to the city of Jacksonville. Hier Holistic “Crop & Critter Shop” opened on March 28 at 660 N 5th Street, next door to Gary West Artisan Smoked Meats. The store provides everything from pet and garden supplies to equipment and feed for local farmers, with a focus on sustainability and organic farming practices as their guide to nourish the soil, plants, animals, and people of this region.

Owner and Southern Oregon native, Luis Peña, comes from a family steeped in the tradition of farming. His understanding and appreciation of the local landscape provides an indispensable backdrop to the full-service, wholehearted approach of his store.

“Whatever their needs are,” Peña says, “I want them to know I’m here to find the easiest solution for them…give me a call, and I’ll take care of it.”

It’s imperative to Peña that he leans into the unique advantages of running a small town business. More than a community, he sees Jacksonville as an extension of his family, and he wants to provide the same type of service he would offer to any relative.

Peña is eager to give back to a community that supported him since he was a child. He proudly explains that opening a store in Jacksonville isn’t about making huge profits, but rather, “It’s about taking care of the community.”

Hier Holistic “Crop & Critter Shop” is open 9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Contact Luis at 541-690-0734 or by email at all@hierholistic.com.
