As we enter the Holiday season, our committee wants to share where our work has led us this year.

As many of you know, we formed our Committee in February 2023 to address the serious speeding problem in our town. We began collecting petition signatures in the spring and quickly found over 350 residents who shared our concerns about speeders putting our pedestrians, pets, and wildlife at significant risk. We held a Town Hall meeting in May where over 50 people came and provided helpful community input to us, with Police Chief Towe, City Administrator Jeff Alvis, Mayor Bowen, and several City Councilors present.

In August after much hard work, we developed a 7-point Action Plan and presented it to the Mayor and City Council. We asked for written feedback by September 15 and were eventually promised a response by the end of October… but that has not happened. However, Mayor Bowen recently created a new, temporary Ad Hoc Committee to address traffic and safety issues, and our first meeting was held on November 8. We have much work ahead, and encourage you to attend our next meeting on Wednesday, December 13, at 4pm, in the upper meeting room of New City Hall. Your attendance, support and input are crucial, and we welcome all ideas and suggestions!

Our first goal is to address and implement our crosswalk plan, including re-painting, better signage, and adding new crosswalks where needed. It is a critical issue impacting everyone, and it is an important, inexpensive start.
