Planning has begun for the first season of World Class Winter Chamber Music in Downtown Jacksonville. Featured will be internationally known ensembles such as the Minguet Quartet from Germany, the American Brass Quartet, Trio con Brio from Denmark, and acclaimed cello and violin soloists. A new non-profit organization, Jacksonville OR Friends of Classical Music, is being formed to produce these concerts.

In addition to bringing international classical musicians to town, one of the goals of the organization is to advance the year-round economic vibrancy of Jacksonville. While Britt Festivals brings large crowds in the summer for both popular and orchestral music, winter in Jacksonville can be slow. At a time when Ashland and the Shakespeare Festival are struggling with tourism and attendance, a winter classical music series may be just the ticket to help the local economy.

Anticipation is already building for the first winter season. These concerts, and receptions for the musicians, will be a joy for the audience and organizers alike. If you are a friend of classical music, and you are interested in helping as a board member or as a volunteer, reply to the email address below for more information. After our application for 501(c)(3) status is finalized, donations and grants will be greatly appreciated.

The City of Jacksonville has graciously offered the upstairs at the new City Hall as a venue…and, it is superb. The musicians are eager to perform. Given adequate support from individuals, businesses, institutions, and music lovers, Downtown Jacksonville will be home to a remarkable annual world class winter chamber music series.
