As every resident of Jacksonville knows, Southern Oregon is full of unique delights: beautiful wineries, gorgeous scenery, endless outdoor adventures, and a vibrant, burgeoning arts scene. This September, Wanderlust Theatre Company of the Applegate Valley will combine all of these delights into one magical experience—an original theatrical adaptation of the Peter Pan story produced at LongSword Vineyard.

Showing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings in September, Neverland will be quite a different theatrical experience than attending a show at Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Audience members will begin their journey on the LongSword Vineyard tasting room patio, which will serve as the Darling residence, and then fly with Peter Pan and the Darling children to a hidden acre in the back of the property that will be transformed into Neverland. The play will be an immersive, interactive experience featuring everything from original costume and sound designs to a 76-foot ship built out of pallets for Hook and his pirates to a flock of Neverland fairies serving LongSword wines, original wine cocktails, and craft beer. Audience members are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, bring layers, and enjoy the show!

Wanderlust Theatre Company is the brain-child of a collective of theater artists who have worked in professional theaters across the country before making Southern Oregon their home in the hopes of sharing their unique way of art-making with the Rogue Valley. Founding member of Wanderlust and LongSword Vineyard wine club & business manager Kate Vangeloff has lived here for four years and is excited to be producing the company’s inaugural show along with co-producer and co-writer Jae Unker and director Nathan Green. Featuring a cast of 16 local actors and a production team of 8 local theater artists, the show is ambitious in scope and promises to be unlike anything the Applegate Valley has seen before.

More information about Neverland and Wanderlust Theatre Company can be found on the company’s Facebook Page, which will also serve as a portal to purchase tickets. Tickets start at $15 and include seating for large portions of the show. The play will run approximately two hours with one 15 minute intermission and will traverse approximately half a mile. The company asks potential audience members with mobility concerns to contact them at neverland@wanderlusttheatre.co. Although Peter Pan is known as a children’s story, this adaptation explores adult themes and isn’t recommended for children under the age of 10.
