Shop Small Jacksonville – April 2021

Think about this idea. Every time you pick up a cup of coffee from Pony Espresso or you buy a gift from Farmhouse Treasures or order a book you are dying to read from Rebel Heart Books, you are shopping small and making a difference. We all want to make a positive impact in our community, and this is one way to do it.

Shop Small is an international movement to support small, independent businesses and call attention to the valuable and distinct contributions they make to our community and economy. Shop Small celebrates small businesses—retail stores, restaurants, salons and many different service providers to name a few.

Here are reasons to Shop Small:

  1. Small businesses give back to our community.
  2. Money is recirculated back into our town.
  3. Small businesses create jobs.
  4. Small businesses give better, more personalized customer service.
  5. Small businesses create a sense of community—we know each other, our kids grow up together and we support one another.
  6. Supporting small businesses feels good because you are contributing to the success of local businesses.

My name is Matthew Katzenson. I moved to Southern Oregon a few years ago and love the small-town vibe of Jacksonville. I have spent my career selling to small businesses and have learned so much from the hundreds of business owners I have met along the way. They have inspired me with their commitment to making a difference in the places where they live and strengthen the soul of the cities and towns where they are located. I will be contributing to the Jacksonville Review by sharing the stories of small business owners right here where we live. I am excited to know who these men and women are, why they chose to start their businesses here and how they have managed to get on the other side of the most challenging year in a very long time.

Please join me today by going out and supporting the business owners of this great small town!
