A famous artist once said, “Real artists understand life with a brush in their hand…what does anyone do with rules? Nothing worthwhile!”

It pleases me to see artists break rules and create the most exciting, chest grabbing, eye rolling art, so when I teach, I never really discuss “rules.” When you come to the reception for Jerry Simon on the 5th of March from 1 to 3 at Art Presence, you will see why. These pieces will capture your attention and give you an opportunity to hear him discuss his process and ask him questions. We hope to see you there. ~Anne Brooke, Director

Our members show continues this month with fresh works added!

Our Guest Exhibit for this month falls in the “don’t miss” column. With the expertise of videographer Arlis Duncan, we have produced an experience of artwork by Jerry Simon. Since the rectangular format for paintings leaves so much for the viewer to imagine, Jerry made the decision to add canvas to his works…to show the top of a mountain, the bend of a river, an exploding star, etc. Not only that, he added depth to his works which draws you in, snatching you out of the viewing area and into the painting. His style is unique, exciting, and awe-inspiring. Now you have the opportunity to see and experience Simon’s paintings! For the video, go to https://youtu.be/MIFh4cAuCsQ to be amazed. To see them in person, come to the gallery! Jerry’s exhibit, “Painting Outside the Box,” opens Friday, March 4, with a reception on Saturday, March 5, from 1–3 pm. Come meet the artist, view the video, and enjoy our members’ work in the main gallery. You will have an opportunity to see Jerry’s process of beginning a painting.

Our March Arts & Letters Zoom chat is an interview with Jerry Simon on the eve of his opening at 5pm on Friday, March 4. Go to our website to request an invitation or to art-presence.eventbrite.com to register.
