My View – September 2022
On August 8, 2022, the community was devastated by the news that Jacksonville City Councilor Jim Lewis had unexpectedly passed away. For many of us, Jim was a mentor, a rock, a friend, a model citizen and the embodiment of a gentleman. In his honor, we are re-running Mike McClain’s “Sensational Seniors” article so that we may all remember Jim’s accomplishments and contributions. Jim’s wife, Gayle, has not yet made plans for a service at this time and will provide a formal obituary for publication in next month’s issue. ~Whitman Parker, Publisher

Mike McClain spent 32 years as a teacher and school administrator, retiring in 1999 as Superintendent of Central Point Schools. He and his wife relocated to Jacksonville four years ago and are enjoying immersing themselves in this unique community.
Thank you, Mike, Jacksonville Review, and Community. Jim was so proud of our City and Jackson County’s people. He knew where our strengths were and sought to amplify them. He literally lived to attend meetings and speak up for you!
