Whether waiting in line for a Britt concert or walking through to access the Jacksonville Woodlands trail system, one can’t help but notice the enhancements which have taken place in Peter Britt Gardens over the past eight years. The restoration of Peter Britt Gardens has been a cooperative effort between the Jacksonville Boosters and the City of Jacksonville. The Boosters have completed more than two thousand volunteer work hours in the Gardens and contributed funds that have resulted in the installation of ADA paver walkways, a new irrigation system, several new retaining walls, a new LED lighting system and the planting of approximately 500 shrubs and trees which are consistent with those contained in Peter Britt’s original gardens. A ribbon cutting ceremony in June 2013 celebrated both the reopening of Peter Britt Gardens and 50 years of Booster’s volunteer service in Jacksonville.
The Boosters continue to collaborate with the City of Jacksonville in maintaining and improving Peter Britt Gardens. The Boosters provide year-round weekly landscaping service and continue to conduct periodic volunteer work parties. Future enhancements are scheduled. If you wish to become involved in the efforts to further improve the Gardens or participate in work parties, contact Rob Buerk, Peter Britt Gardens Project Manager for the Boosters at foundation@jacksonvilleboosters.org.
