Meet the Pioneers 2020—The Board of Directors has chosen to cancel this year’s Meet the Pioneers program that was scheduled for October 2 and 3, 2020. Given the current virus situation, we believe this is the proper and responsible action to take. This was a difficult decision to reach, but going forward and taking unnecessary risks was not an option. We appreciate your continued support and understanding and look forward to welcoming you back to Meet the Pioneers in 2021.

In the meantime, may we suggest viewing a selection from our 2011, program, “The Hartmans,” as presented by Jacksonville residents Steve and Mary Ann Carlson on YouTube. Jason Hartman was a skilled builder who, along with the help of his sons built many of the bridges in Jackson County, including McKee Bridge on the Upper Applegate. On YouTube.com, in the search box, type Oregon History Tales. Click on the picture of the Covered Wagon and Playlists. Under the picture labeled Oregon History Tales, Click on VIEW FULL PLAYLIST – The Hartman’s is #48.

Cemetery Interpretive Panels—Thanks to generous donations, we were able to order replacement panels for our Interpretive signage throughout the cemetery grounds, including a new welcome panel located next to the Interpretive Center and a panel placed at the entrance to each section of the cemetery. The panels provide a brief history of each of the section owners made up of the City of Jacksonville, fraternal and religious organizations. The replacement panels have all been installed and hopefully will last for 10-15 years.
