News from the Jacksonville Community Center – July 2023
Center Director Search—The JCC Board has begun the search for a new Center Director. We encourage those in our community to spread the word about this opportunity to take the Center to the next stage of development. July Programs—We have a mix of programs for adults, young people and families in July!
July 1: Guided Family Hike: Woodlands Walk and Wonder, Tara Laidlaw, 10-11:30am—Enjoy a fun educational walk on the Britt trails near downtown Jacksonville, playing observation games and activities and enjoying a stroll in nature.
July 6: Advance Care Directives, Jennine Greenwell, 1-2:15pm—The session covers the importance of establishing a legally-binding outline of a person’s healthcare wishes, to ensure that one’s own healthcare choices are followed.
Jacksonville Woodlands Exploration Camp, Tara Laidlaw, July 17-20 (Ages 6-9); July 24-27 (Ages 9-12), 9am-noon—In this 4-day camp, kids will explore local woodlands with Tara Laidlaw from the Southern Oregon Land Conservancy. Two separate camp sessions for different age groups will allow tailoring to the children’s abilities and interests. Campers will meet at the JCC and walk to the Woodlands for exploration, nature journaling, and activities.
July 23: Plants for Your Backyard Pollinators, 10am-noon—Learn to identify and care for some of the most common pollinators in our area. A presentation with experienced gardeners with Pollinator Project Rogue Valley, followed by activities around the Center.
July 26: Robbie Collins, the Man Who Saved Jacksonville, Larry Smith, 6:30-8pm—Robbie Collins led the effort to get Jacksonville designated a National Historic Landmark, ensuring that over 100 commercial and residential buildings were preserved.
