Read, discover new programs, and win prizes December 1 through January 5

Jackson County, Oregon (November 20, 2018) – Jackson County Library Services (JCLS) invites Jackson County residents of all ages to participate in the Winter Reads program, which will take place Saturday, December 1 through Saturday, January 5 at all fifteen Jackson County Library branches. This fun program encourages the community to read and discover new library programs and services, with prizes for all participants.

Participation is free and easy. Pick up a Winter Reads bingo form at any JCLS library or print one at jcls.org/programs/winterreads. Earn bingo squares by completing reading challenges, such as reading a book based on a true story, or set in Oregon, or written by a local author. Attending a library program, recommending a book to a friend, or listening to an audiobook will also earn you bingo squares. Young children can participate by listening to books read to them. Once you’ve completed four squares in a row, column, or on a diagonal, return your form to your local library to collect a fun prize. Participants are also eligible for a grand prize drawing for a $50 gift card to a local restaurant, four movie tickets, and movie treats. One entry is allowed per participant.

“We’ve created the Winter Reads program this year to encourage individuals and families to read together through the winter holidays, and maybe to make a new tradition to read in the New Year,” says Director Kari May. “What better way to spend a quiet December evening than wrapped up in a blanket with a new favorite book in front of you?”

“I’m glad to see us move away from age-specific reading programs and instead focus on reading together,” added Brystan Strong, Youth Services Coordinator. “Reading can (and should) be a group activity.”
