My View – April 2020
Due to the disruption caused by the coronavirus crisis and the havoc it’s created, I’ve opted to publish the Jacksonville Review as a digital-only issue this month. If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re on our website or you’re one of our 10,500+ Facebook friends! This virus-induced issue is being produced at no cost to our advertising clients—who need your support now more than ever.
This online copy is a mirror image of our normal print issue and is packed with interesting features about the people that make Jacksonville a wonderful community. And, at this time, nothing is more important than honoring “community” by helping each other navigate this crisis. On page 16, we’re asking you to participate in an upcoming series called, “My Nice Neighbor,” wherein you can let us know about someone in your neighborhood who deserves recognition for doing good things and improving lives. In a later print issue, we will share their story. For the record, we’d planned this feature a few months ago, long before any of us knew what “COVID-19,” “self-quarantining,” or “social distancing” meant!
If you’re wondering how you can help get Jacksonville through this crisis, other than washing your hands frequently, you can make a difference by shopping and dining (carry-out only!) LOCALLY. As you flip the pages onscreen, make a note of the restaurants, shops, wineries, businesses and service providers who’ve always been there for you and your family—then make a conscious effort to spend your dollars in Jacksonville…now.
At this very interesting and stressful time, I wish you and yours health and wellness in Our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!

Dear Whitman, I posted an idea on NextDoor suggesting that a way we can help our local J-Ville businesses (if you can easily afford to) is to use your government relief check to purchase gift cards and NOT use them until businesses have had adequate time to recover. The positive responses have been heartening!
Please consider spreading the word on the Jacksonville Review’s next issue. Thank you!
