September 22, 1939 – Thursday, May 7, 2020
Dr. Seth Raymond Weintraub, 80, of Jacksonville, Oregon, died peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2020 in his home, surrounded by his family, after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was born September 22, 1939 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Seth received his BA degree from Marietta College in Ohio. He received his DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, MA and served 2 years as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. He completed his post-graduate work in Periodontics at New York University. Seth worked as a Periodontist in Bridgeport, CT for several years before moving with his young family to Gainesville, FL to join the Department of Periodontology at University of Florida, while also running a private practice in Periodontics for 25 years. He served as President and Board Member of the Alachua County Dental Association (ACDA) and Rotary Club for many years while living in Gainesville. Seth and his wife, Sharon, were actively involved in Quixtar for many years as well, traveling around the world speaking to audiences of thousands.
After visiting Oregon and falling in love with the state, he and Sharon moved to Jacksonville in 1999. They lived on what they affectionately called “Lone Bear Ranch” for 10 years before moving closer into town. Seth continued working as a periodontist after a brief attempt at retirement. The retirement was short lived as Seth realized that his love for his work and his patients was something that he could not ignore. He spent his free time playing piano, volunteering at a local nursing home playing for their residents, along with being an active participant in the yearly Jacksonville performance “Meet the Pioneers.” He continued to work until the weeks leading up to his death. He loved many things in life including playing basketball with his friends, playing jazz piano, running, skiing, fishing, dentistry, the Rogue River, his kids, grandkids, and most of all, the love of his life, Sharon, his wife of 41 years.
Seth is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lillian Weintraub. He leaves behind the many friends and family who loved him dearly. He was an incredible friend, mentor, father, grandfather, son, brother and husband. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Weintraub, his children, Dr. Josh Weintraub of Baltimore, MD, Nina Isaac (Andrew Isaac) of Tucson, AZ, Dr. Noah Weintraub (Dr. Sarah Weden-Weintraub) of Fulton, MD, Joshua Branch of Gainesville, FL, and his 7 grandchildren, Sophia, Liliana, Ben, Zach, Olivia, Mia and Jordana. He also leaves behind his beloved sisters, Carolyn Greene and Irna Gomez, along with their families.
