At the March 3 meeting, the City Council appointed 5 applicants to a Citizens Advisory Committee that will work on updating Jacksonville’s Development Code. The members who were appointed are Don Reordan, Mike Thornton, Scott Selbe, Beverly Smith, and Diane Helmer. The committee is expected to begin work soon on the code update.

Pending approval by Council, Jacksonville’s Transient Lodging Tax Committee (Bed Tax) awarded the following grants:

  • Peter Britt Music Festival, $10,000 to promote/produce a new experiential orchestral work by composer Caroline Shaw inspired by the Jacksonville Woodlands Trail System. The performance will take place on the trails, in the same manor as the 2018 Crater Lake composition that received worldwide acclaim.
  • The Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce was awarded $20,870 for its continuing marketing campaign to attract out-of-area visitors to town and a $10,152 grant to produce a video of Jacksonville to be used for social media, television and other marketing purposes.
