On Money & More – July 2024

AS A PARENT of a 15-year-old, learning to drive has been an adventure. Recently, when we were sitting in traffic I said to my daughter, “If traffic makes you upset, just remember that you are part of the problem!” It is often helpful to think of our individual impact on the collective society. Currently, Q2 GDP is forecast to be 3.1%. After several years of great growth, this continued strength reflects all of our efforts at working, investing, and spending. We truly are part of the whole.

Cutler has made our home in Jacksonville (we are headquartered in Bigham Knoll, come visit!). And in a small-town like Jacksonville, it is easy to see how individuals can make our collective home a better place. One way we have decided to make an impact is by sponsoring the Britt Music Festival since 1984. This festival is truly a jewel for our hometown; bringing in tourists to spend at local businesses and raising awareness of our “Small town – Big Atmosphere.” And, more importantly, it can also be downright fun. Making an impact doesn’t have to be a chore. At Cutler, we encourage all of our employees to get out and volunteer in their community and we provide matching funds for every employee for charities of their choice. This is one way of encouraging a culture of giving back. How does this relate to our financial advice column? Because each of your contributions to the community makes this a better place to work, live, and retire!

Thank you to those who are visiting our town for the first time this summer. We encourage you to come back and visit anytime. We’d also like you to take a small piece of this “small town” advice back with you; you can make a positive difference in those around you every day. Thank you to our neighbors and friends who have made our community something special.
