Jacksonville Community,
Recent wildfires, combined with the Covid-19 crisis, have challenged our department in ways nobody could have foreseen.
On September 8 all available resources of Jacksonville Fire were rallied to respond to the Almeda fire. Jacksonville crews, along with other regional departments deployed to the streets of Ashland, Talent and Phoenix to fight fire for several days. Immediately upon returning, a portion of our department was again dispatched to assist with the Obenchain fire.
We are working hard to assist other communities while still maintaining adequate emergency resources for Jacksonville.
We have fully realized the threat fire poses to our homes and communities. We’ve seen the destruction and devastation it can bring. Cooperation of state, federal and local resources has kept the potential for an even greater tragedy at bay. The incidents reiterate the absolute necessity for all communities to prepare, maintain, coordinate, and properly fund robust and complimentary emergency response resources.
The Jacksonville Fire Department would like to express our appreciation to all those who have helped during these difficult times. Your meals, care packages, donations, help and support prop us up. Your words of gratitude and encouragement keep us going. Your support is vital.
We’re dedicated to our Jacksonville and all our communities. Thank you for helping us,
Wayne Painter
Fire Chief, Jacksonville Fire Department
