The start of Fire Season was officially announced May 12 in Southern Oregon Department of Forestry Southwestern District. Conditions are pointing to be a very busy summer for wildfires and normally fire season starts at the beginning of June but this year there have been more than 30 wildfires caused by open burning and with above average temperatures and below average precipitation it can be a very active summer.

What this means to the citizens of Jacksonville is losing a month of preparation time to get your weeds and grass in compliance with the city regulations. In the City of Jacksonville, once Oregon Department of Forestry declares fire season, city employees will start enforcing the weed and grass policy and these policies can be found on the cities website. Jacksonville Fire Department is asking residents to mow tall vegetation and create defensible spaces around their properties to reduce the wildlfire threat to the city. If you have questions about the weeds and grass ordinance you can visit the City’s website or contact Jacksonville Fire Department: https://www.jacksonvilleor.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=128
