Each year hundreds of school kids visit Jacksonville to study our town’s history and to walk the woodlands trails and visit the old gold mines preserved in Rich Gulch. Each month a couple thousand hikers, runners and strollers access Jacksonville’s 16 miles of trails. I am grateful that the residents of Jacksonville had the foresight, 30 years ago, to wrap our historic town with an emerald necklace of native woodland trails. ~Larry Smith

I am grateful to the Jacksonville Boosters for making and installing those sturdy and attractive benches all around town. Whether I am coming out of the barber shop or the coffee shop, or just taking a stroll downtown, I can find a bench to rest my weary bones. I have done much of my quality daydreaming there. ~Marshall Thompson

One dictionary definition of gratitude is “the state of being grateful.” Jacksonville is a state of being that creates and releases a sense of gratefulness. One thing I am especially grateful for is the common thread of love and support I see woven between the beautiful people Jan I meet each day on our walks through our wonderful town. ~Garris Elkins

I am grateful for the Britt Trails of Jacksonville. They are unfailingly special: beautiful seasonal colors of wild flowers and trees, exceptional variety of birds large and small, lots of activity with deer young and old, squirrels acting eccentric, glory holes from early gold fever days. I enjoy these miles of diverse and interesting paths and sharing this stunning area with others. ~Steve Bennett

We are grateful for all the volunteers who present such wonderful events as Meet The Pioneers and the Haunted History Tours, and do it with such panache! They help make Jacksonville such a special place to live. ~Mark & Gwen Schiveley

I am thankful that Jacksonville is surrounded by natural beauty. The spring blossoms, fall colors and dustings of snow are all enchanting. Everyone we meet is welcoming. We love seeing people and their dogs out walking. Jacksonville is a happy place! I am especially grateful for my husband, mom and two sons who chose to move to Jacksonville with me! ~Wendy Martin-Rhodes

We are grateful for the ever-changing view from our kitchen window as well as the four distinct seasons. We love looking out our window to see Mt. McLoughlin covered in snow. Everywhere we have toured in the Applegate area is beautiful. We feel very blessed to be living in Jacksonville. ~Rica LaVerda

I am grateful for many things in Jacksonville. From the stores to Britt, there is always something fun to do. I am most grateful, however, for my friend Sara and her dog, my walking partners. We love hiking the Britt trails. It’s fun to listen to the birds and view all the wildflowers. The trails are a great fun! ~Tim & Marie Moran

Grateful for Friendships—We are grateful for friends with commonalities. Our passion is hospitality and we both work in the industry. We soon discovered all the wonderful wines Southern Oregon has to offer and started a local wine group. “Pour Choices” combines our passion for friendship and wine. There’s nothing like breaking bread and sharing great wine with the wonderful people of this community! ~Tony & Linda Kilcollins

We are so very thankful and grateful to have gathered together as a family at the Schoolhaus Brewhaus recently in Jacksonville with our loved ones, including our three adult children, Jay, Sarah, and Megan Rowat. We are from Des Moines, Iowa; coming a long way to create memories with great-aunt Mary Ann Byrne, one of Jacksonville’s beloved residents. ~Luann Rowat

I am grateful for the men in my life who have taught me about love. My husband, Marshall, has been my rock, and my partner in all ventures. My sons, Alex & Noah, remind me that the importance of careers and advanced degrees pales next to my real work– to raise bright, passionate, and kind young men to make their place. ~Andrea Thompson

I can sum up the object of my gratitude in one word: Jacksonville. What a terrific town. It has been said that one doesn’t choose Jacksonville… Jacksonville chooses you. I am grateful for having been chosen by a community of boundlessly creative artists, dedicated civil servants, and enterprising entrepreneurs. And to call them friends and neighbors! ~Gene Luetkemeyer

Jacksonville’s weekly Farmers Market, operated by Ken Snoke and Martha Hess, is a prime example of what happens when community-minded people decide to share their collective passion and improve our lives. Every summer and fall, the market is something for which I am most grateful, as well as their friendship over the years. ~Whitman Parker
