Sipping & Playing in Jacksonville – July 2025

WE’RE GETTING to that time of year when the sunshine lingers a little longer and the valley is buzzing with weekend guests, family visits, Britt concerts and impromptu adventures. And if you’re looking for that perfect spot to unwind with a glass of wine, host out-of-town friends, or just let the kids run free—Hummingbird Estate is your dream stop.

Perched on a hilltop just outside Jacksonville, Hummingbird isn’t just a winery—it’s an experience. Between the jaw-dropping views of Mt. McLoughlin, luxurious on-site suites, and family-friendly touches like a pickleball court (yes, really), this is a place that manages to feel both elevated and welcoming.

Even better, it’s a working family-run vineyard, with a team that’s always ready to greet you with warmth, wine, and a recommendation or two. Whether you’re stopping by for a flight of their wines, staying overnight, or letting the kids play while you sip—there’s a little something for everyone.

  • Room to Play, Space to Stay—My kids were instantly sold when they spotted the pickleball court. Whether they’re rallying on the court, lounging on the lawn, or snacking at the newly updated patio with picnic tables, they’re happily entertained while I sip in peace. And with five beautifully restored suites on-site, it’s perfect for an anniversary escape, a friends’ weekend, or hosting out-of-town guests in style. (Yes, your in-laws will love you forever.)
  • View Goals—Their spacious terrace—offering both covered and open-air seating—boasts one of the most breathtaking winery views in the valley, with a stunning vantage point of Mt. McLoughlin. Few things top the experience of sipping estate-grown Pinot while soaking in the sweeping views. It’s peak Rogue Valley magic.
  • Wine-Lover’s Welcome—I’m a sparkling girl at heart, and their Sparkling Chardonnay is a personal favorite. But don’t overlook the reds—especially the Syrah and Malbec—or the White Pinot Noir, a discovery I credit to Meghann Walk, their wonderful General Manager. In fact, you just might spot her serving this crowd favorite on tap at Medford Rogues baseball games this summer. What better pairing than baseball and a great glass of wine? The tasting menu rotates with the seasons, and each pour comes with its own story. Bonus: they regularly host live music and summer events, making it the perfect weekend night spot.
  • Elevated, Yet Easy—Hummingbird is the kind of place that strikes the perfect balance—elevated, thanks to their beautifully remodeled tasting room, but never stuffy. Whether you show up in yoga pants or are hosting a bridal shower, you’ll feel right at home. Not in the mood for wine? They’ve got local beers on tap. And to keep the kids happy, they offer a clever snack mix (Goldfish, M&Ms, and pretzels) that’s guaranteed to keep little hands busy.
  • A Rogue Valley Favorite—Hummingbird has quickly become our go-to for lazy Sunday afternoons, impromptu picnics, and last-minute date nights. It’s where we take visitors who want “the Rogue Valley in one view,” and where we escape when we need a breather ourselves.

Located at 1677 Old Stage Road in Central Point, Hummingbird Estate is open for tastings, stays, events, and plenty of lawn lounging. Check out their seasonal hours, events calendar and booking details at hummingbirdestate.com.

Whether you’re chasing views, letting the kids burn energy on the pickleball court, or simply raising a glass to summer—Hummingbird Estate is a place you’ll want to return to again and again.
