Sipping & Playing in Jacksonville – August 2025
I KNOW I usually write about wineries—but I had to take a detour to talk about Churro Rush, because this charming little spot in downtown Jacksonville absolutely deserves the spotlight. It may not be nestled among vineyards, but don’t worry—your glass won’t go empty. They serve wine, cider, beer, coffee, and hot chocolate, all in a space that radiates heart, hospitality, and delicious creativity.
Located at 130 W California Street, this family-run gem is the brainchild of the wonderful Ray and Veronica Mortier. Ray greets guests like family, and Veronica works her magic in the kitchen, crafting each dish with care and creativity. Their mission? Elevate a beloved treat into a joyful experience—and create a place where locals and visitors alike feel right at home.
Here’s why you should make it a stop on your Jacksonville stroll:
Fresh Churros—and So Much More—Churros made fresh to order? Yes, please. They’re crispy outside, soft inside, and come dusted with cinnamon sugar or topped with indulgent extras like Oreo crumbles. But the menu goes beyond dessert. Think turkey sandwiches, tortas, and even a fan-favorite Birria Grilled Cheese made from a cherished family recipe. It’s quickly becoming a legit lunch or dinner destination, not just a sugar rush.
Kid-Approved, Parent-Friendly—Churro Rush is a dream for families. On a recent visit with my daughter, we met friends and were welcomed with board games, a cozy play area, and even balloons from Ray as we left. It’s the kind of place where kids can be kids—and adults can actually relax. My kids are obsessed with the churro sundae (churros + ice cream = genius). I’ll admit—I’m still loyal to the classic.
Sip While They Play—In classic mom fashion, I’m always on the lookout for spots where I can enjoy a drink while the kids are entertained. With a rotating selection of wine, beer, and cider, Churro Rush totally delivers. We stopped by after the Jacksonville Victorian Christmas Parade and were delighted to find mimosas—perfect for unwinding after the holiday excitement.
Come Hungry—While churros may be the headliner, the savory menu is worth exploring. Locals are catching on—sandwiches, tortas, and hearty plates are flying out of the kitchen. Veronica told me the Birria Grilled Cheese is one of their most popular new additions. Me? I’ll be back this summer for a casual, dish-free dinner. Sounds like a win for everyone.
A Must-Stop in Jacksonville—Whether you’re kicking off a wine-tasting day, looking for a kid-friendly bribe, or need a quick bite before Britt, Churro Rush is a sweet (and savory) addition to your itinerary. Follow them on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok (@ChurroRush) for event updates you won’t want to miss!
Churro Rush may lead with dessert, but what really makes it shine is the warmth—of the churros, yes, but more importantly, of the people. It’s a place full of flavor, fun, and family-friendly magic. Jacksonville is lucky to have it—and so are we.
Disclaimer: I’m just a wine-loving mom with no formal wine education—just a mission to find the best places to sip, stay, and savor in Southern Oregon.
Amazing place and wonderful owners.
