State of the Art Presence – September 2024

HUMANS HAVE KNOWN for thousands of years that arts activities can provide healing properties. Art Presence offers lots of healthy activities in September, from enjoying the art in our gallery, socializing with arts-minded people at our monthly reception, or sitting in on an author’s talk, to more hands-on happenings through the Messy Hands classes and other art-oriented learning opportunities.

Summer hours continue Wednesday- Saturday, noon-5pm, and Sunday, 10am- 3pm.

September Guest Artist: Todd Lovett—Jacksonville business owner Todd Lovett brings his love of intense color and form to the Guest Artist wall this month with a fun and engaging collection of watercolors. While following a career in surface and textile design, Todd worked in his studio developing his brush skills during his free time. Since moving to Southern Oregon, he has become a co-owner of Artist & Gardener in Jacksonville, where his current studio lives. In addition to this region, Todd has shown his work in San Francisco, Beverly Hills, and Palm Desert. Come meet Todd during the Opening Reception on Saturday, September 7, 1-4pm. He will speak at 2:30 pm.

Member Artist of the Month: Nancy Darte—Our Member Artist this month is currently exploring her “science phase” with her paintings. Nancy Darte’s studies flow from endangered and extinct species to microscopic viruses (with the help of a microscope), plus bugs, rocks, and plants that she finds in her yard. While you’re visiting the gallery in September, make sure to check out Nancy’s work—it will make you smile and perhaps inspire you to get out and explore the outdoors.

Author Talk: Chan Bush—During this month’s reception, recently retired resident Chan Bush will be talking about his new book, The Homeless: A Living Gallery of Hope. A longtime photographer, Chan noticed the number of homeless people living in the open spaces and streets of Jackson County and began interviewing and photographing them, leading to this book. Chan’s talk will begin at 1pm on September 7.

Messy Hands & More—Come have fun September 14, 1:30-3pm, making bead bracelets with Jan Van Ek. It may not be as messy as other arts, but it will be just as fun!

Block Print—Also, on September 15, 1-4pm, Member Artist (and Business Manager) Belinda Moffit invites you to join her for an afternoon of carving and printing your very own block print. Supplies provided. Fee: $40/person. Contact Belinda to reserve your spot: belindaLmoffit@gmail.com.

Imaginarium in October—Reminder: the enchanting realm of the Imaginarium is coming in October—more about that next month…
