Focus on Hanley Farm – September 2020
In concert with all Oregonians, Hanley Farm and the SOHS continue efforts to stem the curb of the Coronavirus through social distancing, avoiding crowds and, most importantly, wearing masks. Luckily, as we strive to defeat this virus, we don’t have to forgo the pleasures we derive from the Society and Hanley Farm. Examples include Nick Garrett-Powell’s (lead vocalist for the Fret Drifters) live drive-in concert held at Hanley Farm in August, the annual Heritage plant sale in May, or virtual visits to the Southern Oregon Historical Society and SOHS Research Library.
When visiting SOHS at www.sohs.org, be sure to include “Collections Exhibits” (www.sohs.org/exhibits-page) in your virtual experience. You’ll enjoy several fascinating and entertaining exhibits including, “Treasured Toys,” an exhibit featuring toys that “mirror their time period and reflect…the people who fashioned and owned them.” And “Games People Play,” a display of games such as the “Uncle Wiggly Game,” introduced by Milton Bradley in 1916; and the “New Yankee Letter Blocks for Word Building,” first published in 1897. You can also read “As It Was Stories,” a series produced by Jefferson Public Radio and written by SOHS and JPR volunteers, at www.sohs.org/as-it-was. To read the full text of stories before 2013, just click on the “Full Text before 2013” tab. Hours upon hours of entertainment and research await you at www.sohs.org!
Have you taken advantage of the Society’s free, trial membership, good until December 1?
