Every October, strange things happen in Jacksonville. Bone-chilling apparitions and the spirits of frightening characters of yesteryear, return to play out their destiny again and again!
“Strange Things Happen in Jacksonville” is the theme of this year’s Haunted Trolley Tour. We are featuring some of our local hangings, disease epidemics, and the Deautremont train robbery. We will also have a number of our favorite Jacksonville historical characters, including Peter Britt, the Jeremiah Nunan family and the infamous Sheriff Terrill,” according to Tim Balfour, originator and producer of this annual event.
Balfour notes, “We’re also adding in some traditional Halloween flavor this year with the introduction of three Jacksonville “witches,” a few zombies, blood-sucking ghouls and a crazed clown, of course. The script team has taken creative license with Victorian-era history from near and far and delivered a fun, tongue-in-cheek narrative for this year’s tour.”
Tour dates are Thursday through Sunday, October 24, 25, 26, 27. Four trolleys will be running with a tour departing every 10 minutes.
“Even more exciting is that we are adding to our guest experience with a full music and a sound effects track that will accompany a pre-recorded narration,” says Denise Cascino of the creative development team. “While we have loved our “live” narrators, the chance to add music and site-appropriate sound effects was too good not to try. Now our guests will actually hear things like dynamite exploding, the “thunk” of a knife striking a target, zombies retching, and ghouls moaning. This new layer of creativity is thanks to seasoned sound designer, actor, and composer Jon Griffin, who has donated his time and talents. Our entire volunteer production crew and cast are excited to bring some Halloween spirit to Jacksonville!”
