“Without the arts, without music, without dance, without drama, without photography, the civil rights movement would have been like a bird without wings.” ~Senator John Lewis

This is a transition month for our art exhibitions, and you can see a wide variety of art as they change over. Our Summer Daze member show and Lucy Warnick’s impressive guest exhibit continue through Sunday, September 13. We now have a virtual tour of Lucy’s show posted on our website and social media. If you’re not comfortable visiting the gallery, go to https://art-presence.org instead, and consider welcoming one of her paintings into your home as you enjoy watching.

In the main gallery, our annual October Imaginarium exhibition opens Friday, September 18 and continues through Sunday, November 1. This year’s theme is “Light Up the Dark” and it promises to be an illuminating exhibit of fun and out-of-the-mainstream artwork. In addition to paintings of all sizes, this exhibition features art in a wide variety of mediums. We’ve added two weeks to give viewers more opportunity to come in and enjoy this popular show. Due to COVID-19 safety issues we will not have an opening reception this year.

We have a fascinating new book by a new author on the shelves now, Soul Companion: A Memoir by Judy Hilyard, RN, MN. Soul Companion is the true account of Hilyard’s adventure as she travels to the afterlife in joyful service to others and for her own education. She recounts her experiences living life as an Adam Aira, or soul companion, for those who have died or are in the final stages of dying.

Psychologist Frank DeLuca has produced a wonderful book, Peeking Into People: The Enneagram Illustrated, with illustrations by Nancy Bardos. On Friday, November 6, we feature a selection of Nancy’s illustrations in our new guest exhibit on the back wall.
