“In life, expect many transformations,” is a quote from an author I enjoy. Art Presence Art Center has put this into practice many times of late. Our expectations of change are filled with hope as we are open for another month to share the art of many fine artists and craftsmen. The experience of seeing and absorbing art is a part of our lives that we cannot ignore. Join us for a brief but important respite to inspire you and give you some peace. ~Anne Brooke
This month’s Guest Exhibit is a show of works by members of the Siskiyou Woodcraft Guild. The show opens Friday, March 5 and remains on display through Sunday, March 28. Their last show only lasted two weeks due to COVID-19 cancellation. Please come to the gallery to see beautifully-crafted wooden vessels, decor items and furniture by Bruce Millbank, Jens Sehm and John Harden. Learn more about the guild and its members at siskiyouwoodcraftguild.org.
Our members show in the main gallery also continues through March 28. This lovely show of new works depicting a range of subjects is well worth a visit to the gallery. If you feel safer viewing the show at home, visit our website for a virtual tour. You can also schedule a private gallery viewing by contacting Anne Brooke at 541-941-7057 or anne@brookewatercolor.com.
This month’s Zoom Room Local Author Reading features E. A. Luetkemeyer reading from his compelling book, Penitentiary Tales: A Love Story. Join us at 5:00pm on Friday, March 12. You can ask questions via the Zoom chat box. Visit art-presence.org for reservations.
Penitentiary Tales: A Love Story recounts the escapades of Dean Davis, a thirty-something, educated, straight white male from the affluent community of Sausalito, in Marin County, California, who is sent to an Illinois prison dominated by a daunting, ethnically-diverse population of inmates from the mean streets of Chicago. Addressing issues of race and gender, it is at once a serious inquiry into the minds and hearts of the marginalized and the oppressed and a bit of a romp. It will appeal to adventurous and intelligent readers of all persuasions who appreciate a literary walk on the wild side. Read more about Gene, read excerpts from his books and learn where you can purchase them at ealuetkemeyer.com.
