The Southern Oregon Historical Society is pleased to announce the October event for its monthly Tales from the Collections program. The program will take place at SOHS’s History Center in downtown Medford (106 N. Central Ave.) on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 10am to 12pm. This event is free and open to the public.
Pinto Colvig is probably best remembered for creating Bozo the Clown, but he had a long and varied career in show business before Bozo. Pinto was born Vance DeBar Colvig (1892-1967) in Jacksonville, Oregon, one of seven children of pioneer Judge William Mason Colvig and Adelaide Birdseye Colvig. Join local historian Ben Truwe as he reprises his popular talk on Pinto’s early years, using recently discovered letters, clippings and photographs from Judge Colvig’s personal papers. Items from the SOHS collection will also be on display, including a full Bozo the Clown costume and original Pinto cartoon drawings. Come learn about a local celebrity and enjoy our final Tales from the Collection program of the year!
Following the event, the Research Library at the History Center will be open from noon to 2pm for anyone wishing to use the SOHS archives for research. The usual research fee will be waived!
