This is a free event and advance registration is not needed.
With the first official burial of the remains of Mrs. Margaret Love, in October of 1859, the Jacksonville Cemetery is one of the oldest and largest historic cemeteries in the state of Oregon and contains some of the earliest pioneer gravesites in all of Southern Oregon. The cemetery is divided into seven different sections for different social and cultural groups, and also has a Potter’s field.
Parking is available at the top of the hill within the cemetery on the traffic circle near the Sexton’s Tool House. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Heritage Cemetery Days is a new event series offered by the SOHS, visiting historic cemeteries throughout Jackson County. On Sunday, May 1, 2016, SOHS will visit the Phoenix Pioneer Cemetery.
