The Rogue Valley Symphony will return to EdenVale Winery for two outdoor summer concerts this year.  June 19, 2015 is the first Summer Series concert featuring oboist Gabe Young.  Music Director Martin Majkut called Gabe “an exceptionally talented musician and a thoughtful young artist.”  This performance will feature Gabe Young on Benedetto Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in C Minor and the lyrical Andante Sostenuto by Gaetano Donizetti.  The orchestra will be featured on George Frideric Handel’s Water Music and an Adagio by Tomaso Albinoni.  Majkut said he is looking forward to “cooling off this summer evening with Handel’s Water Music.”
The concert will begin at 8 pm on June 19, 2015 at EdenVale Winery, 2310 Voorhies Rd, Medford.  The gardens will open at 6:30pm for light supper fare and wine.  Food is available by pre-order only.  Call the RVS Box Office at (541)552-6398 to reserve concert tickets and food.  Wine and other beverages will be available for purchase on the night of the performance from EdenVale.  No outside food or beverages are allowed.  This summer seating will be reserved instead of general admission.

Gabe Young, oboist

At age 19, oboist Gabe Young has been performing professionally for over half of his life. From busking on the street corners of Southern Oregon as a small child to performing sold-out concerts in world-class venues across the United States, Russia, and England, Young has continued to develop his musical prowess in a variety of styles, including classical, jazz, klezmer, and Celtic. Born and raised in Ashland, Oregon, Young picked up the oboe in the fifth grade. He spent eight years in the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon while studying at Ashland High School. He was the four-time Oregon State Solo Competition champion and was named to the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America in both 2013 and 2014. It was on consecutive tours with the NYO-USA that he had the honor of performing under the batons of famed conductors Valery Gergiev and David Robertson, and alongside renowned violin soloists Joshua Bell and Gil Shaham. Young is now a student of Linda Strommen at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, where he is a Wells Scholar.
