2011 Rock Camp!

Happening NOW at the Jacksonville Courthouse is the first Summer Rock Camp. July 18-22, for regional musicians between the ages of 13 and 18, Rock Camp is designed to give up-and-coming musicians hands-on, professional instruction on electric guitar, electric bass, drums, and keyboards. In addition, instructors will address a variety topics including song arranging, using a sound system, recording techniques, vocals, band dynamics and a wealth of information designed to give the next generation of rock musicians the tools and the head start needed to be successful.

Rock Camp’s staff has been hand picked from some of the most talented musicians on the west coast. Collectively, our teaching staff has decades of national and international touring, recording and instructional experience.

2011 Rock Camp!

This year’s event is FULL – but keep in mind for next year:

Core elements of the Rock Camp include:

  • One-on-one instruction with professional musicians
  • Vocal techniques and arranging harmonies
  • Learning about the history of the music they love to play
  • Forming bands and performing publicly
  • Instruction on how to use a sound system to sound your best
  • Tips on how to succeed in the music business
  • Learning what it’s like to be a touring musician
  • Attending Britt concerts and/or access to pre-concert activities

2011 Rock Camp!

Appropriate age and skill level:

Rock Camp is for musicians ages 13 to 18. A minimum of intermediate ability on guitar, bass, drums, or keyboards is requested. A reference from student’s teacher is preferred.

What to bring:

Electric guitar and bass students must bring their own instruments and cables. Drum students are asked to bring their own snare, stand and throne. Keyboard students need to supply only their fingers. All other equipment to be supplied.

All-inclusive fee: $300:

The cost for the Rock Camp is $300 and includes all materials, custom designed t-shirt, lunch each day, all instruction, equipment (other than those outlined in requirements) and recording costs for final day performances. Need-based scholarships are available. See our Financial Aid page if you’d like to apply for a scholarship. Application requires $50 deposit (online application). If accepted, application fee will be applied to tuition; if not accepted, $25 will be refunded.

2011 Britt Rock Camp!

Bob DiChiro

Bob-D-Photo_web_.jpg After nearly 30 years in the LA music scene, including stints as a signed artist with Chrysalis and Electra records, Bob relocated to the Rogue Valley where he continues to pursue his career. He is the director of The Groveman Recording Studio, a non-profit facility with outreach programs for local teens. A recording engineer and producer, Bob also plays nearly every instrument imaginable from accordion to guitar to piano and is the bass player for touring blues phenom, Karen Lovely.

Jeff Pevar

Jeff-Pevar-Photo_web_.jpgOriginally from Connecticut, Jeff Pevar is a guitarist/multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, vocalist and performer who has brought his unique style to such world-renowned artists as Crosby, Stills & Nash, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Kenny Loggins, Jefferson Starship and countless others. Jeff composes and performs original material for stage, TV and the studio and is currently scoring the music for an independent movie called “Walk-In.” Along with two-time Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, David Crosby, Jeff is a partner in the band CPR, which has released 4 albums. Jeff lives in the Rogue Valley and has also been known to play with local band The Rogue Suspects from time to time. More info is available at www.pevar.com

 

 

Teri Cote

Teri-Cote-Photo_web_.jpgTeri got serious about playing drums around age 13, although she knew she wanted to be a drummer when she was six when she created her first drum set, jamming to Earth, Wind & Fire on pots, pans, Tupperware, wooden spoons, and a Folger’s coffee can as her “throne”. Teri sharpened her chops as a drum corps member in 7th grade and played through junior high and high school. She began playing drums professionally at age 14 with a family band called The Marcy Brothers who were signed to Warner Brothers Records and opened for major acts including George Strait, Eddie Rabbit, Johnny Cash, The Oak Ridge Boys, Juice Newton, Roy Clarke, Hwy 101, Keith Whitley, Lacey J. Dalton, Alabama, Exile and many more. Since then she has recorded with and shared the stage with the likes of Stephen Bruton, Asleep At The Wheel, David Cassidy, Bo Diddly, Tom Scott, Paula Abdul, and many others. Teri is an endorser of Vic Firth, Yamaha and Zildjan equipment and her teaching credentials include being on staff at The Austin School of Music, Tommy’s Drum Shop, also of Austin, and Ashland’s Briscoe Art Wing.

Dirk Price

Dirk-Price-Photo_web_.jpgTexas native and guitarist, vocalist and writer Dirk Price cut his musical teeth in the clubs of Austin and during years of touring the world often gigging 5 to 7 nights per week. The combination of the Texas Blues that he grew up with and Jazz influences learned as a graduate of Dick Grove School of Music in L.A. have made Dirk a highly sought after multi-talented musician for groups around the world. Dirk has performed as guitarist with Jack Johnson, Bo Diddly, The Coasters, Ivan Neville and Gypsy Soul and was Music Director for the Inkspots. Dirk has released 5 albums, has had his compositions performed on international TV and recently scored the music for 2 PBS documentaries. Over the past 12 years as a founding member of The Rogue Suspects, he has played in excess of a thousand gigs and has shared the stage with James Brown, Michael McDonald, Peter Frampton, Tower of Power and others. David Scoggin

David-Scoggin-Photo_web_.jpgDavid Scoggin moved to the Rogue Valley in 1999 after many years as a first call jazz, rock, funk keyboardist and educator in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Minneapolis where he worked at Prince’s Paisley Park Studio. He has shared the stage with Bo Diddley, The Crusaders, Janet Jackson, Billy Preston, Sheila E., Tanya Maria, The Time, Bill Bruford, Earthworks, and many others. David has recorded projects for the Karen Lovely Band, Sue Carney, Sarah Jane Nelson as well as Target Stores and the National SIDS Foundation. He has appeared on The Good Evening National Public Radio show with Tropic Zone and John Gorka and was musical director on Broadway for the Steele Family Singers. In the 1990’s he co-designed and developed the best-selling music software programs Vision, Finale, Overture, and MusicShop. David is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and currently teaches American Jazz, History of Rock and Jazz Piano at Southern Oregon University, and music theory, improvisation and private piano, bass and guitar at the Briscoe Art Wing.
