The South Medford girls basketball team that just won their first-ever state championship has only two girls on in from Jacksonville. They attended Jacksonville Elementary together 6 years during Mr. Goerke’s time as principal. Mr. Goerke attended all the games at the Rose Garden this past weekend just to watch “his girls” play. What a dedicated mentor and principal to come watch kids he educated 15 years ago!
Kylie Towry and Tess Picknell started playing together when they were 4th and 5th graders at Jville Elementary School. They are the only two Jville girls on the team, and the only two girls on the team to make the state all tourney first team all stars (only 5 total from the state of Oregon)! Picknell is graduating this year, and will be attending Stanford University. Mr. Goerke was at all of the games at state tourney in Portland to support his past students. Marissa Towry, another Jacksonville girl under Mr. Goerke’s time as Jacksonville’s Principal, is one of the coaches also.
The team is the first in Oregon history to have a 30-0 perfect season!
