My View, December 2013/January 2014 – by Whitman Parker

I’d like to wish everyone Happy Holidays and express my sincere thanks for making 2013 another wonderful year here at the Review! Over the past 12 months, the Review has featured a dizzying number of stories about the people, places and events – in-print and online—that make this a wonderful and interesting place to live. Once again, I am most grateful to my incredibly-talented and dedicated production editor, Andrea Yancey, who makes every issue look its best. This year, I’m proud of several of our accomplishments: the transition to an all-color format, the addition of 4 pages, expanded distribution, circulation and content, an upgrade to a stunning magazine-like cover, a significantly-increased online reach, production of 2 episodes of Jacksonville Oregon Now, and other behind-the-scenes upgrades.

For a feel-good glimpse of town that will make your out-of-state friends jealous, be sure to check-out our new online videos at www.jacksonvillereview.com. We’ve produced and published 2 of 6 episodes. Episode 1 features an overview of town and episode 2 (see below) showcases our incredible merchants—just in time for your holiday shopping pleasure! I hope you enjoy and then share these and upcoming segments with family and friends.

Finally, I invite you to read about the Jacksonville Review Volunteer of the Year Award on page 4 of our print issue and on our website. Although I’d planned to pick one winner, that task was impossible. Thanks to the incredible volunteer efforts by ALL nominees, the true “winner” is everyone who benefits from their unselfish contributions in Our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!
