Mother Nature Takes Down Christmas Tree
The fabulous Victorian Christmas Tree at the Beekman Bank on the corner of California and 3rd came down a few days earlier than planned thanks to a 35 mph wind gust that dislodged it from atop the old city well. Within minutes of being toppled, Chamber of Commerce volunteers along with Public Works and the Jacksonville Police quickly secured the scene, ensuring passing cars and pedestrians were out of harms way! In typical Jacksonville style, volunteers Linda Graham, Kay Faught, Harvey Bower and Jeff Vineyard arrived to save the lights and ornaments and assist Mike Bartlett of Bartlett’s Tree Service with the clean-up. Police told the Review they had received warnings from the Weather Service of unusually high winds in the area.
