Jacksonville Review – September 2023
Supporting a vision to expand programs and access, Jacksonville Community Center (JCC) has recruited Julie Raefield to serve as the new executive director, leading the organization’s ongoing operations and fundraising efforts for the years ahead.
Raefield recently served as the public information officer and government relations coordinator for Rogue Community College (RCC) where she assisted the college in deepening relationships with regional legislators, community organizations, business partners, and media. Prior to RCC, she served as the development director for Southern Oregon Friends of Hospice in Medford, assisting the nonprofit in securing significant ongoing operational funding to maintain Celia’s House, the residential hospice home it runs.
With over 25 years of experience leading and fundraising for nonprofits, Raefield will take on the JCC position beginning September 5.
“I’m tremendously honored to be joining the stellar staff and dedicated board at JCC. I also appreciate the many volunteers and community groups who make the center run. The tremendous support that created the Center and keeps it humming is inspiring,” said Raefield.
Under Raefield’s leadership, JCC plans to expand the role of advisors and community partners at JCC. With additional community support, JCC plans to offer regular drop-in hours and increase workshops and free public events. Raefield plans to seek ideas from community members on what interests and needs JCC can respond to.
“We are excited to have Julie’s enthusiasm and experience here as our new executive director. We know that our center has the potential to grow and become even more vibrant as a wonderful community resource,” said Sue Miler, JCC Board President.
According to Raefield, “Meeting the annual operating budget requires an integration of generous community donations, business sponsorships, grants, program fees, volunteer support and facility rentals. JCC already has a strong network of support to call on that will surely launch us forward.”
In October, Raefield and JCC’s board will provide a community update on future plans for growth.
JCC is holding an open house reception to introduce Raefield to the community on Thursday, September 21, 5-6:30pm, at the center. The public is welcome and refreshments will be served.
