January 5, 1939 – September 28, 2021

Mary Nelson went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2021, with her husband Carl by her side. Mary was born on January 5, 1939 to Reynold H. and Veronica M. Meyer (nee Brookbank) in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Moving quite often with her family, she met Carl in California and they married on November 14, 1963. They settled in Lomita, Ca. where she dedicated her life to raising 3 children. She was active in the PTA, the HOA and the City of Lomita’s Women’s Division.

After their retirement, they settled in Southern Oregon where she said, “the mountains called her.” Mary loved nature and animals. She absolutely adored cats and volunteered many hours to Committed Alliance to Strays “CATS.” She was very active in the Jacksonville Garden Club and the Jacksonville Booster’s Club.

Mary was blessed to travel the world. Some of her favorite places were Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, to name a few. She witnessed both rocket and a Space Shuttle launch from Cape Canaveral Space Center. She joined Carl in 30 years of Rotary service that allowed her to see the entire state of Oregon and more.

Mary is survived by her husband Carl, son, Mark Nelson and wife Carrie, daughters, Lisa Nelson and Erin Nelson, brothers, Neal Meyer and Gerry Meyer, and granddaughter, Gabby Ploth.
