Find Your Elsewhere – March 2024
AS A RESTAURANT OWNER, I have the privilege of conversing with several individuals, including married couples. My other business, Elsewhere Travel, often comes up in these discussions, leading to a topic that I find quite interesting—the differing travel preferences between spouses.
In my conversations, I have noticed a trend where the wife desires to travel, but the husband does not share the same enthusiasm. What should one do in such a situation? Should the husband be dragged along, or should the wife opt for solo travel or travel with friends and family? According to Road Scholar, nearly 85% of solo travelers are female, and 60% of them are married!
While movies like “Eat Pray Love” and “Under the Tuscan Sun” showcase newly single women going on a trip of self-discovery, many married women want to explore the world, experience new cultures, and see new places. Women are embracing solo travel now more than ever! Thanks to increased safety measures and social media, female travelers have found inspiration and guidance from other women who have embarked on solo adventures.
Gone are the days when women traveling alone was considered rebellious or dangerous. Nowadays, several travel companies cater to women’s unique travel needs, offering various options to fit every preference. From iconic destinations like New York City, Paris, the Amalfi Coast, and the Greek Islands, to more daring adventures in Thailand, Morocco, Japan, and Vietnam—the opportunities for female solo travel are endless.
If you have the budget and a bucket list that needs checking, there’s no reason why you can’t see the world and travel the way you want. Life is too short not to indulge in the things that bring us joy. So go ahead, book that trip, eat that cake, and buy those shoes!
