My View – July 2019

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been looking up a lot lately, checking the skies for signs of smoke… with your fingers crossed behind your back! With “fires” literally being a hot topic and on everyone’s mind, you get what I’m talking about. Like me, you’re surely hoping for the best. As of this writing, the sky is a crystal blue, the air is clear…and Jacksonville is as lovely as ever! With any luck, it’ll stay that way and we’ll have a smoke-free summer to remember.

For those of you stay-cationing this summer and not taking off for greener, or bluer pastures, be sure to take full advantage of the season and explore town and the surrounding area. There’s so much to do and see.
From historic sites, miles of hiking trails, a robust wine country, a new dog park, shopping, dining and an incredible lineup on the Britt Hill, Jacksonville is the place to be.

One new event taking place in downtown is the Second Saturday Art Walk, sponsored and produced by Art Presence Art Center. At the heart of the event is Anne Brooke, one of Jacksonville’s working artists, who oversees the gallery and is instrumental in making art present (hence, Art Presence) in Jacksonville. Join me and your art-loving friends on July 13 from 5:00-8:00pm and take in the sights of this fun-filled happening.

Cheers to a stress-free and smoke-free summer in Our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!
