News from Britt Hill – March 2023
We’re only weeks away from spring, and I’m desperate for flowers, sun, and the return of outdoor events and meals. Luckily, as you’re reading this, our Britt team is putting the finishing touches on our March show announcement—a true harbinger of the summer to come!
In February, we shared our Britt Festival Orchestra season, June 15-July 2. It’s a stunning season, featuring some of the best-loved melodies in orchestral music (Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 is possibly the most famous four notes in the repertoire; Also Sprach Zarathustra is featured in the opening of 2001: A Space Odyssey; and West Side Story is one of the greatest hits of the 20th century) alongside tons of brand new works from some of the most influential artists composing today. Programs will be only 90 minutes in duration with no intermission, so you can come enjoy the music and still make it home during summer’s late dusk hours. For one special night, the BFO will also play the score live-to-picture with The Princess Bride (our only longer program this summer), and I’m hoping we’ll have a costume contest with some fun prizes.
Be sure to mark your calendars for April 6, when we’ll be rolling out our final (and largest) season announcement for 2023. Members will be invited to join us in person as we unveil the season, and then get first dibs on tickets, so don’t be shy about donating to Membership. There are plenty of wonderful perks, and I can promise you that a handful of our shows are going to sell out quickly. You won’t want to miss them!
There’s so much to look forward to, and I never forget the privilege of doing this work in our community. Britt creates opportunities for fun, for beauty, for delight. As a nonprofit arts organization, we are driven by serving our community far more than the bottom line. We strive to keep our ticket prices within reach while juggling rising artist fees and the desire to bring you the best possible roster of performers. It’s a joy, and I can’t wait for you to see the lineup this year. It’s been the hardest secret I’ve ever had to keep, and I’m really looking forward to letting the cat out of the bag!
Until our announcements, I’m zipping my lips. If you see a sly smile on my face around town, you’ll know why!
All best, Abby
