The City Council and Budget Committee thoroughly examined a Meals Tax and rejected it 13-1 as an inadequate funding option.
Now in place, the Surcharge is capped at $20/month, will last 5 years and can be reduced or removed at any time depending on additional funding from OTHER sources.
The Surcharge asks every household to contribute equally and the city has a discount/relief program for residents who qualify.
The Surcharge spreads the cost of supporting our full-time police force across the entire city evenly. Everyone pays the same $20/month and receives the same police protection.
