A new enterprise at 235 West Main Street, launched by Gabrielle Pullen, now offers learning resources for locals and tourists alike. Expanding an online presence that Pullen recently relocated from the Seattle area, “Your Life Matters, Inc.” offers a triune approach to improving quality of life: Feldenkrais lessons for ease of physical tension which is inevitable as we age, Writing and Test Prep tutoring for a rich life of the mind, and Creative Writing workshops for vital nourishment of the soul. Pullen says, “The integration of mindfulness in learning and healing has been well established. Your Life Matters believes in teaching people how to help themselves.”
The clinic will offer weekly classes in Feldenkrais®, known as “Awareness Through Movement®” (ATM) which relieves muscular issues such as back pain and expedites rehabilitation from injury. “These verbally guided lessons in mindful, non-habitual movement are the best choice for those seeking a self-directed approach,” Pullen says. Private sessions featuring “Functional Integration®,” a form of neuromuscular rehabilitation that heightens body-awareness, will also be offered.
Gabrielle will also offer Feldenkrais Creativity Workshops for Fiction Writers along with Saturday workshops for local and out-of-town writers. She’s excited to be located next door to Élan Guest Suites & Gallery, a perfect spot for visiting writers to stay and to enjoy all that Jacksonville offers.
The third of the triune offerings at Your Life Matters is purely intellectual—tutoring sessions focused on helping students transition to college, be it high school students, or veterans or adults who wish to return to college. “The first step is test prep,” Pullen says, “because they cannot get into a good university without a high SAT or ACT score…personalized tutoring is available for any standardized test.” Strategies taught also increase reading speed, generate proficient writers and help students become more articulate when they speak.
