Dan Winterburn, a huge Laurel & Hardy fan, is presenting a free movie at 7pm on Friday, January 20th at Old City Hall.

Dan’s organized a local fan club, called a “tent” by Laurel and Hardy fans, under the banner of the international appreciation society the Sons of the Desert, named for one of their films.

About a dozen club members meet during the year, said Winterburn. The tent is named “Rogue Song” for a film that was destroyed in a fire. Just a 30-second clip remains.

In 2010, Winterburn attended the biennial Sons of the Desert international convention in Sacramento. He’s going to go to this year’s event in Manchester, N.H., in July.

The next showing, at 7 p.m. on Jan. 20, will feature four Laurel and Hardy productions, including the 1927 “Love and Hisses,” the first film in which the pair worked together as a planned team. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
