My View – May 2024
I WANT TO REMIND OUR READERS about the importance of dining and shopping locally in our charming town. Supporting our local businesses isn’t just about convenience or preference; it’s about nurturing our community and bolstering our local economy.
When you choose to dine at our local restaurants or shop at our small stores, you’re not just making a transaction; you’re making an investment in our community. The economic benefits of shopping small are immense. Studies show that for every dollar spent at a locally-owned business, a significantly larger portion of that money stays within the community compared to spending at chain retailers. This money circulates right here, supporting jobs, local suppliers, and other businesses, which in turn strengthens our economy.
Furthermore, by supporting local businesses, you’re contributing to the unique character and identity of our town. Our local shops and eateries offer distinct products and experiences that you won’t find anywhere else. Whether it’s handcrafted goods, farm-to-table cuisine, or personalized service, these businesses add vibrancy and flavor to Jacksonville, making it a destination worth visiting time and time again.
By choosing to dine and shop locally, you’re helping to ensure the survival and success of these establishments, allowing them to continue serving our community and contributing to our collective prosperity.
So, next time you’re considering where to eat or shop, I urge you to think and act “local.” Let’s continue to celebrate and support the diverse array of businesses in our Small Town with Big Atmosphere!
Hi Whit,
I think you are working on the next issue. The Friends FOJHC is dedicating a memorial stone to Dirk on June 8th at the cemetery at 9:30 am. I can send a photo if you’d like.
Eric
