Jacksonville Teen Chosen as 2013 Youth Grand Marshall for Arthritis Walk
Jacksonville 8th-grader Liam Hensman wants you to join “Team Jacksonville,” and will serve as this year’s Youth Grand Marshall in the Southern Oregon Arthritis Walk on October 5th. The walk, a benefit to raise awareness and funds for Adult and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, starts at 9:00 am at Bear Creek Park in Medford.
Liam, a Ruch Middle School student, is an active and upbeat 13-year-old and is the son of Michelle and Warren Hensman of Jacksonville. Liam’s goal is to find 30 locals to walk with “Team Jacksonville,” and raise $3000 for the event.
Liam Hensman is one of approximately 294,000 kids nationwide affected by pediatric arthritis. Considered the most common form of arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis begins before age 16 and involves swelling in the joints and is caused by an auto-immune reaction wherein the body attacks itself. Liam was diagnosed at 14 months and undergoes 3-5 surgeries per year to prevent extensive, long term damage in his joints.
An avid basketball player and swimmer, Liam doesn’t let his arthritis get in the way of doing his best at sports and schoolwork. He was chosen as this year’s Youth Grand Marshall due to an outstanding outlook on life and a desire to inspire kids with arthritis and to not let anything hold them back. Please support this worthwhile event by joining “Team Jacksonville.” More information is available online on Facebook at Southern Oregon Arthritis Walk or by calling Michelle Hensman at 541-306-0668.
