JACKSONVILLE IS EXTREMELY VULNERABLE TO WILDFIRES due to so many homes being in close proximity to woodlands and forests. Jacksonville is holding a Wildfire Community Preparedness Day on Saturday, October 19, from 9am-1pm, in the D Street parking lot. Residents may bring branches, leaves and other vegetation to be chipped and disposed of.
Three dumpsters will be available:
- One for small vegetation debris
- Two for debris that needs to be chipped
- Please separate different types of debris into separate loads
Members of the Jacksonville Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will coordinate and manage the event along with the Jacksonville Fire Department.
Please take this opportunity to dispose of branches, dead trees, dead shrubs and leaves found on your property. Removing dead vegetation and debris, removing/trimming flammable trees and shrubs near your home and pruning tree limbs so that the lowest branches are 6 to 10 feet above the ground will help protect your home from wildfire.
