Jacksonville Learning Programs is an organization that provides educational opportunities to families in the Rogue and Applegate Valleys. We offer outdoor programs that provide engaging and nurturing experiences for children ages three to eight years of age. It was created in 2017 in response to the large demand for outdoor education programming for young children.
Jacksonville Learning Programs was founded under the idea that children need be actively engaged in what they are doing in order to truly learn. Teachers Becka Kem and Amanda Freeman act as mentors to explore certain concepts with children, whether it’s exploring the natural flora and fauna of the woods, watercolor paintings, or how water creates erosion patterns. Research has shown that children do much better academically, socially and emotionally if they are given ample time to explore nature often and at their own pace. Children who spend time in nature grow to be adults that have a better understanding of the natural world and the importance of preserving it. At Jacksonville Learning Programs, we understand the importance play and exploration has on learning outcomes.
This fall, we are offering forest programs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:00am to noon, for children ages three to eight. In the summer we offer a variety of camps that encourage kids to get outside and learn more about the local plants, animals, geology and history.
