Owners of the iconic Jacksonville Inn are proving themselves capable caretakers as they move forward in distinction, with due respect for the history there. Recent changes have brought a complete refresh to the wine shop/bar, pouring all of the delicious wines we’ve come to know and love, with plans to invite visiting wineries to offer tastings.

Pia Skinner, formerly with Harry and David, is the hotel and wine bar manager. Pia met me for a glimpse into the glamor they’re bringing to the storied walls. Olaf & Company’s remodel design has brought a vibrant spaciousness to the room. From the stunningly-handcrafted walnut tasting bar fashioned by local master woodworker, Matt Bostwick, to an impressive mirror with Jacksonville Inn on the wall behind, this makeover is a must-see.

A new window brightens the space and highlights alluring azure walls. Speaking of light, the eye-popping chandelier over the seating area adds the perfect blend of modern and classic chic. “We’re going to have seating for about twelve people here.” Pia pulled back the cover of a gorgeous and comfy-looking designer chair and gestured to a space that’s the perfect perch for watching passers-by on California Street. “This area is primarily going to be for wine tasting,” she added. Visitors will still be able to purchase their wines as before, but now they’re welcomed into a relaxing atmosphere to stop and enjoy a glass or share a bottle over good conversation. “We’ll also have some charcuterie platters and small bites available.”

“We don’t want to take the historical aspect away,” Pia assured me. “We decided to install open shelving for the wine so you can see more of the brick.”

Hours are changing, from 9am-5:30pm to 12-7pm, except for Sundays. Pia added, “Because of our Sunday brunch, we’ll be open 9am-7pm on Sundays. We want people to enjoy a glass of wine in the afternoon, and we’re kind of following what other wine tasting rooms are doing in Jacksonville.”
