The 2019 recipient of the highly coveted President’s Award is Malcolm Carlaw and the recipients of the 2019 Booster of the Year Awards are Dick Meyers and Ron Holthusen.

Malcolm Carlaw is the recipient of the 2019 President’s Award. His unfaltering and enthusiastic participation in club projects was highlighted. He has done everything from hanging flags to being a parade marshal, and in-between, he’s done grounds clean-ups, painted benches, and wrestled rafters on the Community Center Shed. Moreover, his service as Treasurer was praised with acknowledgement of his work to refine and bolster fiscal policies. Finally, his cheer and humor have brought smiles to all whom he has worked alongside.

The Booster of the Year Award is given to individuals who have made long-lasting and profound contributions to the Club.

Dick Meyers was noted for being “a reliable mainstay of the Home and Garden Tour, and it was noted that he contributed much historical research and insight into the Path Through Time Project. His work on the Foundation Board was also praised for his unfaltering good sense and clear thinking as well as his willingness to take over the running of the Foundation during the President’s absence. Described as a “quiet, behind the scenes guy,” Dick was praised for his quiet and efficient work to further the mission of the Club to serve the community of Jacksonville. Dick was recognized as the epitome of the hard-working club members who are the backbone of the Club’s success.

Ron Holthusen was also named Booster of the year for 2019. His service to the Board and Club Leadership was noted as he served first as Club Vice President and then went on to serve as President for three years. During his term in office, his warmth and kindness were credited with greatly increasing the ranks of the membership. Moreover, his colleagues on the Board noted his hard work in updating bylaws, more clearly defining key club roles and overseeing the creation of the Projects Committee, all of which served to leave the Board in a stronger position than ever. Since leaving the position of President, Ron’s commitment to Booster service remains strong as he volunteered to take over the Membership Committee. In that role he has continued to work tirelessly to connect new members to the Club’s activities. He has also expressed his commitment to enlarging the scope of membership beyond merely recruiting new members. Working with the Membership Committee and the Board, Ron is examining ways to increase involvement with our existing members and to better draw them into the heart of the organization.
