Are you missing Kay?
You’ve probably figured out that Kay isn’t in Jacksonville anymore. Kazuko (known to everyone as Kay) is originally from Japan, and bought her little pink house on North Fourth Street in 1969. She was often seen shopping, walking and eating in our many great Jacksonville establishments. Many of you became friends, and/or at least got to know Kay from random encounters and conversations. If you ever had the pleasure of seeing the early photo of her she carries in her wallet, you know immediately that she was a model – simply gorgeous!
A few months ago, she fell, and never really recovered from the fall. She then spent some time in a Foster Care Home, which recently had to close.
Her step-grandson moved her to Idaho, so that she would be nearby family and they could watch over her. Kay told Kelly Cason of Farmhouse Treasures that they have been visiting her every day, but she really misses all her Jacksonville friends. She would love to hear from you!
If you have photos and/or stories of Kay you would like to share, please email them to jo@jacksonvillereview.com, and we’ll post them here.
In July, 2011, Janice Mills circulated a giant card to get as many Jacksonville folks to sign for Kay! Hopefully, you were able to sign it!
Thank you for the nice story and up date on Kay. Pleased that she has family who care and will watch over her. Miss not seeing her walking around Jacksonville or sitting somewhere having a bite to eat. Kay always had a big smile and greeting for everyone on her tour of the town.

Thanks for the comments Dirk – and yes, she is missed.
Thank you for this nice article you wrote about Kay. It was very touching, and it made her cry when I read it to hear. She would absolutely love to hear from any folks in Jacksonville. She considers you all her friends. Her contact information is still the same. She is doing very well, and keeps everyone on their toes at Bristol Heights, where she lives. I was hoping you could send me a name and phone number of the people who bought her house? Recently a husband and wife visited her, and brought her a box of her old pictures. We don’t know who they were, but wondered if they are the owners of her house. They tried to find her for a year, and we’re able to because of this story you published about her. We would like to find these people to tell them thanks; Kay was overcome with emotion when she saw her pictures. Any information you can give me would be awesome! Thanks so much, Jennifer Kiracofe, granddaughter-in-law
