CHILDREN’S HERITAGE FAIR RETURNS

Southern Oregon Historical Society is reviving the popular Children’s Heritage Fair at a new location: Hanley Farm. The fair is open to school groups on Friday, June 3 from 9 am – 2 pm and the general public on Saturday, June 4 from 10 am -4 pm.

The Children’s Heritage Fair is a day of children’s activities designed to make history come alive through hands on activities, arts and crafts, and entertainment. Children will get a taste of pioneer life by engaging in these diverse activities.

Activities include a mock archaeology dig; gold panning; cooking and food preparation like butter churning, cheese making, and grinding wheat into flour; and pioneer toys and crafts.  Visitors will also get hands-on experience spinning and weaving wool; pottery making; tin punching and so much more.  Draft horses will be plowing the fields on both days and tractor rides will take visitors on a tour of the farm.  Don’t forget to visit the farm animals! Experience the thrill of milking a “cow” and sit in a real saddle to learn lassoing. There will also be music, square dancing, clowns and balloons.  Enjoy life on the farm for a day!

All are welcome to attend.  Admission is $4.00 per child, $2.00 for SOHS members.  Adults are admitted for free. Hanley Farm is located is located at 1053 Hanley Road (Hwy 238), between Jacksonville and Central Point.
