Herbert Dean Beavers was born on Christmas Day in 1935 and grew up in Indio, CA and Winfield, KS. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at 19 after graduating from Winfield High School in 1953. During his three-year service, he married Judy S. Rexroad and started a family. Herb earned his teaching degree from Emporia State Teacher’s College in Kansas and taught high school art in Winfield before accepting a position in Medford, Oregon and moving his family to Jacksonville in 1965. After two years teaching at McLoughlin Jr. High, he advanced into student counseling at Medford Mid-High and Medford South High for the rest of his career.

Herb and Judy had three boys: Stacy, Phil, and Brad. The family lost Judy in 2002. Herb remarried in 2005 to Judy Coffman. Herb was a proud Marine, an artist, an author, a teacher and counselor, a tennis player and golfer, a motorcycle and hot-rod enthusiast, a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Also preceding him in death were sons Brad Beavers and Phil Beavers, and grandson Ryan Beavers. He is survived by his wife, Judy, son, Stacy, grandsons Chris and Andrew, and great-grandsons Bennett and Asa.
