Herb Quady retires from Troon Vineyard after 10 years at the helm
Brian Gruber joins Herb to form “Barrel 42,” specializing in premium custom winemaking.
Medford, OR, February 22, 2014: After nearly ten years as the head winemaker at Troon Vineyard, Herb Quady announced today that he was stepping down from the post to form a new business specializing in small lot, custom winemaking. Herb joined Troon Vineyard in the summer of 2004 and presided over the winemaking operations during a period of significant growth for the winery and the region in general. He has plans to continue on for some time on a limited consulting basis in order to help ensure a smooth transition.
“I have a lot of respect for the legacy of Troon Vineyard. The Martins gave me a fantastic opportunity when they brought me on, I’m sure that the tradition of fine wines will continue.”
Herb’s longtime associate at Troon, Brian Gruber, will be joining Herb as a partner in the new venture. Located at the SOS complex in South Medford, Barrel 42 will focus on small lot, premium wine production for the Quady North label and a small number of select clients.
“The idea is to limit our production in order to focus on high quality wines that express the vineyard and achieve our client’s stylistic goals. We will be using top notch equipment that will allow for gentle handling, and devote a high level of attention to each lot.”
The establishment of Barrel 42 signifies continued growth for the local wine industry. Located at the SOS facility in South Medford, the winery complements the existing wine storage and specialty wine shop that already exists at the complex.
